It comes down to weight in grams, karat purity and the live spot price. Divide spot by 31.1035 for the per-gram price of pure gold, multiply by the purity, then by the weight. What is 14K gold worth per gram?
14K gold is 58.3% pure, so it's worth about 58.3% of the per-gram spot price of pure gold. That percentage never changes, but the dollar figure moves with the market every day. Our per-gram calculator shows today's number.
What do gold stamps like 585, 750 and 916 mean?
They're purity marks in parts per thousand: 417 is 10K, 585 is 14K, 750 is 18K, 916 is 22K and 999 is 24K. GF, GP, HGE and RGP mean gold-filled or plated, not solid gold. A stamp is a starting point, so we always confirm it with a test. More in our gold stamps guide.
How much do you pay compared to melt value?
Our offer starts from melt value (weight times purity times live spot) less a margin that covers refining and market risk, and we show you each number at the counter so you can compare. Designer, signed and collectible pieces can be priced above melt.
Do you test my gold in front of me?
Every time, no exceptions. We run an acid test and an electronic reading right at the counter so you can watch the whole process before we talk numbers.
Do you buy broken gold jewelry?
Yes. A broken clasp, a bent ring or a single earring doesn't change how much gold is actually in the piece, so it doesn't change what we pay.
Do you buy dental gold?
Yes. Crowns, bridges and fillings are often high-karat gold and test just like anything else. Bring them in.
Do you buy gold coins and gold bars?

Gold-plated pieces have very little actual gold in them, so we usually pass. If you're not sure whether something is plated, solid or gold-filled, bring it in and we'll test it for free.
